This study was published in 2016 by our sports science expert Dr Valerie Gladwell in the Journal of Sports Sciences and is a detailed technical analysis of the effect of carrying out simple exercise movements during long periods of sitting, as would be the trend in a workplace, and the positive results achieved in terms of blood flow and heart rate


This narrative outlines some helpful ways of measuring employee satisfaction and some practical tips on initiatives HR can put in place to engage with employees and measure the journey experience within the company.

Mental illness is the largest single cause of disability in the UK. Workplaces are amongst the institutions that contribute to, and impact on, our mental health throughout our lives. The complexity, diversity and range of root causes of mental health conditions make management of mental health at work difficult and challenging, especially for line managers who are often on the frontline in supporting colleagues or signposting them to additional support.

This report, commissioned by ACAS and conducted by Dr Maria Hudson of Essex Business School, explores the management of mental health at work in a variety of workplace contexts in the public, private and voluntary sectors.
